Sudabeh Rises from the Howdah
From B6.2, Kavus Seeks Sudabeh’s Hand. It illustrates B6.2.45–51:
- B6.2.45The New Moon rode within a litter bright,Her marriage gifts displayed in splendid sight.
- B6.2.46The escort shone like Paradise in hue,As tulips seemed to fill the heavens’ blue.
- B6.2.47When that fair pageant met the monarch’s gaze,His heart was filled with wonder and with praise.
- B6.2.48A new moon from the howdah rose in light,Like some new king upon his throne made bright.
- B6.2.49Black musk lay scattered over roses fair,Ambergris earrings trembled by her hair.
- B6.2.50Two rubies shone; two languid narcissus eyes,Her brows like silver pens above them rise.
- B6.2.51Kavus invoked the name of Yazdan then,And gazed amazed beyond the gaze of men.
