Rostam Waits Alone at Sunset
From B6.5, Rostam’s Message to Hamavaran. It illustrates B6.5.61–65:
- B6.5.61When Rostam heard, he armed himself again,And rode to meet the gathered ranks of men.
- B6.5.62He called for any champion to appear,And stood alone, devoid of doubt or fear.
- B6.5.63He waited long; no champion answered call,Before his challenge none came forth at all.
- B6.5.64The radiant sun sank down beneath the main,And rushing night spread darkness on the plain.
- B6.5.65Then Rostam turned and left the silent ground,And sought his tent where rest at last was found.
