The Eagles Lift Kavus's Throne
From B6.9, Iblis Beguiles Kavus. It illustrates B6.9.29–36:
- B6.9.29A throne of Qomari aloeswood he made,Its upper joints with gold secured and laid.
- B6.9.30Along its sides he fixed long spears upright,And bound them firmly to the throne and tight.
- B6.9.31From every spear he hung a lamb’s fat thigh,To draw the hungry eagles straining high.
- B6.9.32He brought four mighty eagles to the ground,One on each side, securely lashed and bound.
- B6.9.33Then Kavus settled on the lifted seat,A cup of wine before him, red and sweet.
- B6.9.34The starving eagles, eager for their prey,Strained upward hard and beat their wings away.
- B6.9.35They drove themselves toward the suspended meat,And raised the throne with every upward beat.
- B6.9.36They climbed toward the meat with all their force,And bore the throne aloft along its course.
