Rostam Watches Sohrab's Feast
From B8.15, Rostam Slays Zhendeh Razm. It illustrates B8.15.11–20:
- B8.15.11He moved still deeper through the festive throng,Where lamps were bright and cups and music strong.
- B8.15.12There Sohrab sat where lamps and wine were spread,In splendor on the feast-throne at the head.
- B8.15.13Beside him Zhendeh Razm held one side,While Houman, Barman sat in equal pride.
- B8.15.14Like some fresh cypress Sohrab filled the throne,In stature such as none around had shown.
- B8.15.15His arms like camel thighs were thick with might,His chest a lion’s, broad and built for fight.
- B8.15.16His face was blood-red, youthful, fierce, and bright; No peer among those warriors met his sight.
- B8.15.17Around him sat a hundred youths in pride,Like mighty lions gathered at his side.
- B8.15.18And fifty bracelet-wearing servants stood,Attending him with spirits bright and good,
- B8.15.19They praised his stature, sword, and signet ring,And blessed the fortune shining round their king.
- B8.15.20Apart, unseen, the watchful Rostam lay,And marked the youth who ruled that bright display.
