The Infants in the Golden Basin
From B9.11, Sudabeh and a Sorceress Devise a Scheme. It illustrates B9.11.23–27:
- B9.11.23At dawn he found Sudabeh on her bed,While turmoil through the whole shabestan spread.
- B9.11.24Two infants in the golden basin lay,Cast there in misery before the day.
- B9.11.25She poured out tears: “Look clearly, O Sun, and seeWhat bitter proof lies openly with me.
- B9.11.26I warned you often what his deeds had done;Yet foolishly you trusted in your son.”
- B9.11.27The Shah grew doubtful, left the troubled place,And pondered long, suspicion on his face.
