Siavash Departs for the Jihun
From B9.31, Siavash Yields Command to Bahram. It illustrates B9.31.20–27:
- B9.31.20Then summoned all the nobles to his side,And spoke with calm authority and pride:
- B9.31.21“Piran has crossed the river; he is sentBy Afrasiab, with plain and clear intent.
- B9.31.22He bears a secret message meant for me,And brings the word that I must hear and see.
- B9.31.23I go to meet him; here you must abide,While I ride forth to greet him at his side.
- B9.31.24To Bahram turn, and heed what he may say;Let none among you turn his heart away.”
- B9.31.25The chiefs, each one, bowed low and kissed the groundBefore the prince, whose grief burned deep, profound.
- B9.31.26The sun showed him its back; the air grew dim,The earth turned harsh as sorrow weighed on him.
- B9.31.27He could not hide the tears that filled his eyes,As toward the Jihun he led his ranks with sighs.
