Siavash Weeps amid the Welcome
From B9.31, Siavash Yields Command to Bahram. It illustrates B9.31.63–73:
- B9.31.63They rode together, grief at last allayed,And spoke of every matter that they weighed.
- B9.31.64The chang and rabab filled the streets with song,And woke the sleeping as the notes rolled long.
- B9.31.65The ground was dark with musk along the way,Arabian horses seemed to wing away.
- B9.31.66But when the prince beheld this splendid show,His tears like sudden rain began to flow.
- B9.31.67He thought of Zabul and its festive throng,And feasts to Kabul stretched the road along.
- B9.31.68Again he saw the nobles’ bright array,With Rostam, Piltan, leading the display;
- B9.31.69He thought of Iran with a mournful sigh,While homesick longing dimmed his watchful eye.
- B9.31.70He saw again the gems cast from above,With musk and ambergris, and signs of love.
- B9.31.71His heart recalled them, burning as before,Like fire that leapt within him at the core.
- B9.31.72He turned away to hide his inward pain,Yet Piran saw the grief he strove to rein.
- B9.31.73He knew what memory had brought this grief,And bit his lip, himself denied relief.
