The Star-Readers Foretell No Blessing
From B9.40, Siavash Speaks with Piran of the Future. It illustrates B9.40.1–7:
- B9.40.1When from that pleasant tract they rode away,Siavash communed with his heart that day.
- B9.40.2He called the sages versed in stars and fate:“Will farr and fortune bless what I create?
- B9.40.3Will this abode bring blessing to my reign,Or shall I rue the work and suffer pain?”
- B9.40.4“This founding is not blessed,” came their reply;“No happy fortune waits beneath this sky.”
- B9.40.5Their answer stirred his anger and his grief; His heart found neither comfort nor relief.
- B9.40.6His hand grew slack upon his charger’s rein,And hot tears coursed along his face in pain.
- B9.40.7Then Piran said: “My lord, what causes this? What grief has turned your heart from former bliss?”
