Gangdezh Rises on the Mountain
From B9.39, Siavash Founds Gangdezh. It illustrates B9.39.44–55:
- B9.39.44When Siavash had viewed that favored ground,In all Turan no finer place he found.
- B9.39.45He made his name renowned through what he planned,And raised another wall around the land.
- B9.39.46Stone, mortar, marble, and substances rare,And one strange substance no man could declare.
- B9.39.47Two hundred cubits high and more it rose,And thirty-eight in breadth its measure shows.
- B9.39.48No catapult could reach that lofty place,No arrow shot could ever strike its face.
- B9.39.49You had to see the place with your own eyes;Else hearers might grow angry at such lies.
- B9.39.50Two farsangs stretched from summit down to ground,While sheer and yawning chasms ringed it round.
- B9.39.51No eye below could glimpse its lofty crest;A bird that sought its height would tire in quest.
- B9.39.52The prince endured such hardship for renown,For greatness, royal throne, and kingly crown.
- B9.39.53Within that lovely ground he built with skill,A splendid city fashioned to his will.
- B9.39.54He raised its palaces, eyvans, and square,And planted countless trees in gardens fair.
- B9.39.55He made the place a paradise to view,Rose, hyacinth, narcissus, tulips grew.
