Sudabeh Seizes the Departing Prince
From B9.9, Siavash Visits a Third Time. It illustrates B9.9.13–18:
- B9.9.13Then Siavash replied: “For no desireWill I cast life away to feed its fire.
- B9.9.14I will not wrong my father nor betrayMy courage or my wisdom from their way.
- B9.9.15You are his queen, the sunlight of his throne;Such sin should never make the Shah’s wife known.”
- B9.9.16Siavash rose in anger from his seat;Sudabeh seized him as he sought retreat.
- B9.9.17“I told my heart’s deep secret just to you,Yet evil-minded, you have proved untrue.
- B9.9.18You mean to bring me shame before all eyes,And make me scorned before the good and wise.”
