Sudabeh Unveils and Kisses Siavash
From B9.8, Siavash Visits the Bower Again. It illustrates B9.8.28–39 (to B9.8.45):
- B9.8.28He gave no answer; then she raised the screenThat veiled her face and let her beauty gleam:
- B9.8.29“If sun and new moon shared a single seat,Their rival lights together there would meet,
- B9.8.30No wonder if the moon should lose its pride,When such a sun was shining at its side.
- B9.8.31Whoever sees me on this ivory throne,With ruby, turquoise crown above me shown,
- B9.8.32Would turn no eye toward moon or lesser face,Nor count another woman near my grace.
- B9.8.33If you will pledge yourself to me this day,Turn not aside, but drive my fear away.
- B9.8.34One of these daughters I will give to you,To stand before you, loyal, steadfast, true.
- B9.8.35Now swear an oath and do not turn aside; When Kavus leaves this world, by me abide.
- B9.8.36Be his memorial, and guard me well;Hold me as dear as life while here I dwell.
- B9.8.37Behold me now: before you here I stand; My body and my soul are in your hand.
- B9.8.38Whatever earth contains shall be your share;I will not turn from any wish you bear.”
- B9.8.39She clasped his head and kissed him, heedless thenOf fear and justice in the eyes of men.
