Rostam's Merchant Caravan Enters Turan

From C2.21, Rostam Goes to Khutan to Piran. It illustrates C2.21.11–19:

  • C2.21.11
Thus at the border he left all his force,And with the chiefs through Turan set his course.
  • C2.21.12
He loosed his belt and put on merchant guise; His warriors hid their strength from hostile eyes.
  • C2.21.13
The chiefs unbound the silver belts they bore,And dressed in woolen robes that merchants wore.
  • C2.21.14
They rode through Turan as a merchant train,With fragrant goods that colored all the plain.
  • C2.21.15
There were eight steeds: one Rakhsh, renowned and bright,The others bore his chosen men of might.
  • C2.21.16
Ten camels carried jewels in their load;A hundred bore the garments troops had stowed.
  • C2.21.17
With clanging bells and cries, the sound was borneAs though it came from Tahmuras’ great horn.
  • C2.21.18
So, Rostam marched on with his merchant crowd; The country around them shook, their clamor loud.
  • C2.21.19
As they drew near Khutan, beside the wayCame men and women, watching the display.
