Piran Prays Alone for an End
From C3.23, Afrasiab Replies to Piran. It illustrates C3.23.62–68:
- C3.23.62He thought: “If Afrasiab should be killed,With all Turan’s famed chiefs, the battle-skilled,
- C3.23.63If they are doomed to perish in the fray,And all our fortune’s promise turns away—”
- C3.23.64Then bitterly he wailed: “O Judge on high,O radiant Maker, hear my grieving cry.
- C3.23.65When Khosrow comes from Iran to this plain,And all the earth falls under his domain,
- C3.23.66Then let the Maker take my soul away,My body in its jowshan torn that day.
- C3.23.67May these world-seeing eyes not live to seeAnother take my place and ways from me.
- C3.23.68To one whose fortune thwarts his every breath,No difference lies between his life and death.”
