Giv Holds Firm Against Two Chiefs
From C3.25, Giv’s Horse Falters before Piran. It illustrates C3.25.49–55:
- C3.25.49While Giv fought on, Lahhak with hurried courseRemounted on a swift, wind-footed horse.
- C3.25.50The two chiefs, armed with gorz and spear, attacked,Like lions raging where the lines were packed.
- C3.25.51Their gorzes rained with many a crushing blow,Yet Giv sat firm against the double foe.
- C3.25.52Firm in his khadang saddle, Giv held fast,And took delight in battle as blows passed.
- C3.25.53When they beheld that lion standing strong,Defying all their blows the whole day long,
- C3.25.54The two chiefs cried in anger and despair:“What evil has Iran brought us to bear?
- C3.25.55An elephant is mounted on that steed;Only a lion’s claws could make him bleed.”
