Bijan Finds Gostaham at the Fountain
From C3.46, Bijan Comes upon Gostaham. It illustrates C3.46.10–16:
- C3.46.10He followed where the horse’s tracks had led,And found his friend beside the fountain-head.
- C3.46.11There Gostaham lay fallen on the ground,His jowshan, helmet bloodied, dust around.
- C3.46.12Bijan dismounted swiftly from Shabrang,And clasped his friend while cries of sorrow rang.
- C3.46.13He stripped the Roman armor from his chest,And took the helmet from his wounded crest.
- C3.46.14He scanned the wounds, still open to the air,And saw the harm of leaving them so bare.
- C3.46.15The blood had drained away; his flesh was pale,His heart in pain, his spirit weak and frail.
- C3.46.16He pressed his face against the wounds and stayedBeside his friend, lamenting, sore dismayed.
