Lahhak Weeps as He Looses His Arrows
From C3.45, The Deaths of Lahhak and Farshidvard. It illustrates C3.45.24–29:
- C3.45.24When Lahhak saw his brother’s lifeless face,And knew his strife had ended in that place,
- C3.45.25He shook with grief; his sight grew dim with pain,And darkness veiled the world upon the plain.
- C3.45.26He wearied of his life and strung his bow,Then drew it taut to answer blow with blow.
- C3.45.27He shot at Gostaham; from either eyeHis tears poured down as arrows crossed the sky.
- C3.45.28Their arrows flew, and neither shot in vain; Not one fell harmless on the dusty plain.
- C3.45.29Both men were wounded; then their swords flashed bareAnd clashed, their fierce clang ringing through the air.
