Lahhak Sleeps While Farshidvard Watches
From C3.44, Bijan Follows Gostaham. It illustrates C3.44.37–43:
- C3.44.37They found a running stream beside a glade,Where caravans could rest beneath the shade.
- C3.44.38Inside were lions, birds, and roaming game,While trees and grass adorned the woodland frame.
- C3.44.39They stopped to drink, their throats with thirst aflame; Then hunger rose and made its equal claim.
- C3.44.40No grief or joy can silence hunger’s call; The hungry mouth stays open through them all.
- C3.44.41They roamed the meadow, bringing down their prey,And many beasts before those hunters lay.
- C3.44.42They lit a fire and ate kabab, then deepIn weariness they turned their heads to sleep.
- C3.44.43But grimly fortune held the pair oppressed;Lahhak slept; Farshidvard watched his brother’s rest.
