The Marvels of the Sea of Zereh
From C4.36, Kay Khosrow Crosses the Sea. It illustrates C4.36.18–26:
- C4.36.18The soldiers showed the Shah, in their surprise,The wonders spread before their startled eyes.
- C4.36.19They saw both lions and bulls within the wave;Against the lions, bulls stood firm and brave.
- C4.36.20Like kamands hung the hair of men they spied;Like sheep, they bore thick wool on every side.
- C4.36.21A fishlike body bore a leopard’s head;A nahang’s body bore a gur’s instead.
- C4.36.22With feet before and human hands behind,Some bore the heads of buffalo in kind.
- C4.36.23One had a hog’s head on a lamb-like frame;And many more within the waters came.
- C4.36.24The Iranians pointed out each wondrous sight,And called upon the Maker’s holy might.
- C4.36.25By mercy of Yazdan on high, the breezeGrew calm; no hostile wind assailed the seas.
- C4.36.26In seven months they crossed the waters wide;No wind had turned against them on the tide.
