Khosrow before the Walls of Gangdezh
From C4.37, Kay Khosrow Reaches Gangdezh. It illustrates C4.37.4–12:
- C4.37.4When Khosrow saw the walls of Gangdezh rise,A veil of tears fell down before his eyes.
- C4.37.5He left his steed and laid his head to ground,And praised the Maker with a respectful sound:
- C4.37.6“O righteous Judge, I am Your slave in awe,My heart is filled with reverence for Your law.
- C4.37.7You gave me strength and rule, with farr beside,An army, fortune, courage as my guide,
- C4.37.8That I might see my father’s city wall,Its towers lifted high above us all.
- C4.37.9It was Siavash who built this mighty place,By God’s own farr, raised from its lowest base.
- C4.37.10The tyrant’s hand that took his life awayLeft every heart in grief and deep dismay.”
- C4.37.11The troops together wept beside the wall,For blameless Siavash and for his fall.
- C4.37.12He perished by his adversary’s hand,A deed that sowed long feud through every land.
