Seers Read the Silent Sky
From C4.4, Kay Khosrow Hears of Afrasiab’s Advance. It illustrates C4.4.24–29:
- C4.4.24Two days and nights the armies held their ground; No warrior moved his lips to make a sound.
- C4.4.25The horsemen mounted firm on either side,The footmen formed before them, rank and wide.
- C4.4.26The world became a mountain, iron-made;The heavens seemed in jowshans all arrayed.
- C4.4.27Before the King and Shah seers drew near,With anxious minds and tables of the sphere.
- C4.4.28With astrolabes they searched the turning sky,To learn on whom its favor now would lie.
- C4.4.29But heaven watched the battle from on high; The baffled seers could offer no reply.
