Goshtasb Drives the Ball Out of Sight
From C5.13, Goshtasb’s Prowess before Caesar. It illustrates C5.13.15–21:
- C5.13.15He bade them saddle one earth-shaking steed,And rode where Caesar watched the riders’ speed.
- C5.13.16He watched the polo on the Caesar’s ground,Then asked for stick and ball from those around.
- C5.13.17He cast the ball among the mounted band,And gripped the polo stick within his hand.
- C5.13.18He spurred his horse; the others lost their pace,Their hands and feet grew helpless in the race.
- C5.13.19The warriors paused; no man could see it fly,So high he drove the ball into the sky.
- C5.13.20Where could the riders find the ball he played? They ceased their strokes; no further charge was made.
- C5.13.21The Roman faces paled; on every sideRose noise and clamor in a troubled tide.
