Wed with Nothing but Each Other
From C5.8, Goshtasb Weds Katayun. It illustrates C5.8.1–9:
- C5.8.1When Caesar heard, he fixed his will that day:He wed the pair and sent them on their way.
- C5.8.2He said, “Go with her as you stand, no more;I give no crown, no signet, gold, or store.”
- C5.8.3Goshtasb saw this and stood in stunned surprise,And called upon the Maker of the skies.
- C5.8.4He spoke to noble Katayun in pain:“You have been sheltered from all want and strain.
- C5.8.5What moved you here to make your choice of me,Among these chiefs and crowns of high degree?
- C5.8.6The man you chose is destitute, alone; With him no wealth, but hardship, will be known.
- C5.8.7Choose one your equal from these noble men,And win your father’s favor back again.”
- C5.8.8But Katayun replied, “O doubting heart,Do not rage at the sky or fortune’s part.
- C5.8.9If I am pleased with you and with my fate,Why seek for crown and throne and royal state?”
