The Dragon Swallows the Carriage
From C7.4, The Dragon of the Third Stage. It illustrates C7.4.31–36:
- C7.4.31The horses strained to flee the dragon’s force,But it sucked in the carriage and each horse.
- C7.4.32Inside the box, the prince grew stern and grim; The swords lodged in the maw surrounding him.
- C7.4.33Blood like a sea poured from its wounded maw;The swords stayed fixed between its throat and jaw.
- C7.4.34Those swords had made its mouth a sheath of pain;It could not loose them; strength began to wane.
- C7.4.35Then from the box the gallant warrior rose,And raised his sword to strike repeated blows.
- C7.4.36With lion’s strength he hacked the dragon’s brain,Till venom fumes arose across the plain.
