Prayer in the Spear-Deep Snow
From C7.7, The Snow of the Sixth Stage. It illustrates C7.7.68–79 (to C7.7.81):
- C7.7.68A fierce wind swept across the mountain zone,And chilled the prince and soldiers to the bone.
- C7.7.69The whole world darkened like a raven’s plume,And none knew plain from height within the gloom.
- C7.7.70The darkened mountain vanished under snow; The earth was buried under blast and blow.
- C7.7.71For three full days and nights across the land,The wind’s wild fury swept on every hand.
- C7.7.72The tents and their enclosures soaked straight through,And no man stood against the cold that blew.
- C7.7.73The air was woof, the snow its warp of white; The prince stood trapped within that bitter plight.
- C7.7.74The stricken prince called, “Bishutan, draw near; This misery has overwhelmed us here.
- C7.7.75I faced the dragon’s fumes with warrior might,But strength and manhood cannot win this fight.
- C7.7.76Now lift your hands in prayer to God Most High;Call on His name beneath this frozen sky.
- C7.7.77Offer Him praise, that He may turn asideThese ills beneath whose weight we now abide.
- C7.7.78Otherwise, from this hour our lives are lost; Our strength is gone, our hopes consumed by frost.”
- C7.7.79Then Bishutan approached Yazdan Most High,Who guides the good and bad beneath the sky.
