The Tamarisk Arrow Strikes
From C8.27, Rostam Shoots Esfandiyar in the Eyes. It illustrates C8.27.12–16:
- C8.27.12Then Rostam quickly fitted to his bowThe shaft, as Simorgh taught, to strike his foe.
- C8.27.13The arrow struck his eye and quenched the light; Before the prince, the whole world turned to night.
- C8.27.14His cypress stature bent; his wisdom fled,And all his glory vanished as he bled.
- C8.27.15The pious prince’s head bowed toward the land; His bow of Chakh fell slackly from his hand.
- C8.27.16He clutched the black steed’s forelock and its mane; His blood turned ruby-red the dusty plain.
