Goshtasb Orders Rostam Bound
From C8.3, Goshtasb Replies to His Son. It illustrates C8.3.31–41:
- C8.3.31If crown and throne are what you hope to claim,Then march with troops to Sistan for that aim.
- C8.3.32When you arrive, bind Rostam’s hands; obeyThe charge I give, and bring him back this way.
- C8.3.33Bring Rostam with the kamand round his arm,Bound fast, a captive, stripped of power to harm.
- C8.3.34For Zal, Zavareh, Faramarz, take heed;Let none contrive a snare to thwart your deed.
- C8.3.35Bring them on foot and make them run this way;Bring them before me, prince, without delay.
- C8.3.36Then none will turn from us, however greatHis wealth or pleasure in his prosperous state.”
- C8.3.37The chieftain frowned, displeasure in his eyes;He said, “Turn back from what you now devise.
- C8.3.38Not Zal or Rostam is your true concern;Against your son your plotting thoughts now turn.
- C8.3.39You grudge the royal throne I seek to gain; You would not have me in this world remain.
- C8.3.40Keep crown and royal throne, as you desire; The world has corners where I may retire.
- C8.3.41Yet I remain your servant, patient still,And bow my head before your royal will.”
