Lambak Receives the Miser's Hoard
From D10.5, Bahram Grants Baraham’s Wealth to Lambak. It illustrates D10.5.17–23:
- D10.5.17A hundred camel-loads of gold they made,With dirhams, furnishings, and goods arrayed.
- D10.5.18He gave to Lambak all this treasure bright; The water-carrier bore it from his sight.
- D10.5.19Then Bahram called the miser back and said,“O man whose meanness makes the dust his bed,
- D10.5.20How long did your own prophet live, you say?Why weep for so much surplus wealth today?
- D10.5.21A horseman came and spoke these words to me,An ancient saying, plain for all to see:
- D10.5.22‘The man who has enjoys his ample fare; The man without grows withered in despair.’
- D10.5.23Now loose your grip on all you would not spare,And watch the water-carrier take his share.”
