Rizmehr Spares the Captive Qobad
From D12.3, Jamasp Takes the Throne after Qobad’s Fall. It illustrates D12.3.12–19:
- D12.3.12They bound Qobad’s feet; neither farr nor raceCould win him honor in that hostile place.
- D12.3.13Now Sofrye had a single cherished son,A youth of wisdom, holy, harming none.
- D12.3.14Rizmehr, whose love had made his father glad,A gentle son, the joy that Sofrye had.
- D12.3.15To him they gave Qobad, the captive king,And waited for the vengeance grief would bring.
- D12.3.16They thought, “In grief, the loving son will takeRevenge for Sofrye, for anguish’s sake.”
- D12.3.17Good Rizmehr, faithful to Yazdan above,Spared King Qobad and answered hate with love.
- D12.3.18He bowed before Qobad with reverent face,And spoke no word of vengeance or disgrace.
- D12.3.19Qobad was moved and marveled at the deed,And learned the kindness men in sorrow need.
