The Hungry Crowd Opens the Granaries
From D12.6, Qobad Adopts the Faith of Mazdak. It illustrates D12.6.31–36:
- D12.6.31When Mazdak heard, he kissed the royal ground,Then stood before the hungry crowd around.
- D12.6.32He cried, “Go to the grain-stores; take your share,And save yourselves from famine and despair.
- D12.6.33If owners ask its value, pay in gold;Let none die hungry while the stores still hold.”
- D12.6.34His own supplies of grain he freely gave,That all the hungry folk he thus might save.
- D12.6.35Then all the starving people rushed for grain,And plundered every store to ease their pain.
- D12.6.36The citizens’ and Qobad’s stores they seized,And through the plunder hunger’s pangs were eased.
