The Shah at the Fire of Azargashasp
From D13.11, Anooshirvan Marches against Caesar. It illustrates D13.11.12–21:
- D13.11.12The great Shah marched with Kaveh’s flag and crown,In golden boots that flashed with bright renown.
- D13.11.13Their clamor carried two farsangs ahead; The ranks by tabiras and tuskers led.
- D13.11.14Toward Azar Abadagan he led the way,With nobles front and rear in close array.
- D13.11.15When he beheld Azargashasp’s far light,He left his horse and bowed before the sight.
- D13.11.16He asked his Mobad for the barsom boughs,And bathed his cheeks in tears and holy vows.
- D13.11.17He entered praying through the fire-temple door,While a gold-inlaid throne stood on the floor.
- D13.11.18They spread the Zand-Avesta wide to read,And Mobadan intoned its holy creed.
- D13.11.19The rites were done; the Mobadan and allThe chiefs and nobles bowed before the call.
- D13.11.20They tore their robes and cast down jewels rare,And murmured blessings in a voice of prayer.
- D13.11.21The Shah approached, and praised with humbled browThe Maker, to whom earth and heaven bow.
