Nushzad Throws Open the Prisons
From D13.17, The Revolt of Nushzad. It illustrates D13.17.11–18:
- D13.17.11He heard the throne was empty of its Tree; His father gone, the seat of kingship free.
- D13.17.12He opened wide his palace doors; his callDrew troops from every quarter to his hall.
- D13.17.13Men who had left all reason far behind,Whom Anooshirvan had ordered confined,
- D13.17.14Nushzad released from prison and from chains,And panic swept the streets and crowded lanes.
- D13.17.15He gathered Christians, priests and prelates bold,And drew them all within his rebel fold.
- D13.17.16He summoned horsemen, swordsmen to his hand,All armed for war and under his command.
- D13.17.17His mother gave him treasures from her store,The gifts the Shah had heaped on her before.
- D13.17.18Then thirty thousand men had joined his side,All famed in arms, all ready, battle-tried.
