The Youth Rises Before the Sages
From D13.20.2, The First Banquet. It illustrates D13.20.2.9–16:
- D13.20.2.9When Bozorgmehr had heard their learned art,And saw the Shah held wisdom dear at heart,
- D13.20.2.10He rose, bowed low, and said, “O righteous king,May earth submit beneath your crown and ring.
- D13.20.2.11May heaven shine with Fortune’s light for you;Permit your slave to speak what he knows true.
- D13.20.2.12Though I am least in knowledge and in worth,I too will speak before the lord of earth.
- D13.20.2.13No wise man merits blame for words that bringHis knowledge into view before the king.”
- D13.20.2.14The monarch looked upon the youth and said,“What cause has knowledge to conceal its head?”
- D13.20.2.15The youth at once displayed his learning’s light; His lucid speech made all the court grow bright.
- D13.20.2.16His eloquence and counsel held each heart; The Mobadan all marveled at his art.
