Dara's Army Flees across the Farat
From D4.4, Dara Fights Iskandar and Is Worsted. It illustrates D4.4.16–21:
- D4.4.16Upon the eighth, dark dust rose into view; The sun above them turned to lapis blue.
- D4.4.17Iran’s embattled warriors saw no light,With only dust of battle in their sight.
- D4.4.18Then Dara turned and fled the field that day,And all his warlike chiefs forsook the fray.
- D4.4.19His beaten troops crossed Farat in their flight,And left the field where they had waged the fight.
- D4.4.20Iskandar’s legions pressed the fleeing foe,One side in triumph, one consumed by woe.
- D4.4.21They struck them down along the river shore,Uncounted sons of Iran breathed no more.
