Taynush Rages at the False Envoy
From D5.22, Taynush, Son of Kaydafa, Rages against Iskandar. It illustrates D5.22.1–10:
- D5.22.1When Taynush heard Iskandar’s spoken word,He raged like wind, with all his anger stirred.
- D5.22.2He cried: “You worthless fool! Your wit is small; No man would count you as a man at all.
- D5.22.3Do you not know before whose face you sit?Do not display your hand or vaunt your wit.
- D5.22.4Your head is filled with arrogance and wrath;Who is your king, who set you on this path?
- D5.22.5Were it not for our sovereign mother’s grace,I would tear off your head here in this place,
- D5.22.6As from a laden bough one plucks its fruit;A citron severed from the parent shoot.
- D5.22.7Mourning Foor, I will tear your head away,And to the gathered troops its face display.”
- D5.22.8His mother called to him to still his tongue,And at her shout his startled head he swung.
- D5.22.9She said: “These heavy words are not his own;Flay him who sent him from his royal throne.”
- D5.22.10She ordered them to drag her son away,Out from her presence, where he could not stay.
