Iskandar Weeps Before the Brahmans
From D5.24, Iskandar Questions the Brahmans. It illustrates D5.24.58–62:
- D5.24.58Iskandar’s face grew pale to hear him speak,And yellow as the bloom of fenugreek.
- D5.24.59His yellow cheeks were wet with tears of pain; His smiling face grew troubled by the strain.
- D5.24.60The Shah then asked: “What would you have me do?What need have you that I can meet for you?
- D5.24.61I shall not grudge my treasure for your sake,Nor shrink from any pains that I must take.”
- D5.24.62One said: “Deliver us from age and death,To keep the vigor of our mortal breath.”
