Golnar Brings the Treasure for Flight
From D6.5, Golnar Falls in Love with Ardeshir. It illustrates D6.5.59–68:
- D6.5.59She left the palace like an arrow’s flight,And brought the gems to Ardeshir that night.
- D6.5.60He held a cup; his grooms were all asleep,And wine had sunk them into slumber deep.
- D6.5.61For Ardeshir had plied them all with wine,Since he must flee in secret by design.
- D6.5.62He chose two noble steeds, the finest bred,Now saddled at the manger where they fed.
- D6.5.63He saw Golnar, and saw the jewels she bore; The ruddy dinars gleamed among her store.
- D6.5.64He said, “We must be gone; we cannot stay;No longer here; now we must ride away.
- D6.5.65May we escape this dragon’s claws and go,And save our youthful lives from all this woe.”
- D6.5.66He put the cup aside, his purpose steady; He bridled both the Arab steeds, made ready,
- D6.5.67Put on his khaftan, mounted, helmed, alert,And with a poison-watered blade was girt.
- D6.5.68She mounted on the other steed to ride;Together they departed, side by side.
