- D6.6.21Still riding, he said, “Golnar, you and IAre joined to hardship as we onward fly.
- D6.6.22Let us dismount beside this spring; the strainHas worn both horse and rider on the plain.
- D6.6.23Beside the water, let us rest and eat,Then ride refreshed and hasten our retreat.”
- D6.6.24The two drew near the water, almost done;Their faces had grown yellow as the sun.
- D6.6.25About to leave his horse, he saw besideThe pool two youths who called to him to ride.
- D6.6.26They cried, “Be quick! The stirrup and the reinMust serve you now; ride hard across the plain.
- D6.6.27You slipped the dragon’s jaws and burning breath; To halt now may expose your life to death.
- D6.6.28Do not dismount to eat beside this pool;Preserve your life; let that become your rule.”
- D6.6.29Ardeshir heard and told Golnar, “They speakGood sense; now let us ride, and safety seek.”
- D6.6.30He pressed the stirrup, gave the charger rein,And shouldered his bright spear to cross the plain.
