Hormizd Names His Line
From D7.6, The Daughter of Mehrak Bears a Son. It illustrates D7.6.19–25:
- D7.6.19The Shah then asked the Mobad, “Whose is he?What noble branch has borne so bold a tree?”
- D7.6.20The Mobad asked, but none could name his race; They all kept silent in that crowded place.
- D7.6.21The Shah commanded, “Bring him here to me;Lift him from earth, his face I wish to see.”
- D7.6.22The Mobad raised him from the dusty ground,And bore him where the King and court stood round.
- D7.6.23The Shah said, “Noble child, before my face,Declare from whom you spring, your stock and race.”
- D7.6.24The boy spoke out aloud, his meaning clear:“My name and race must not be hidden here.
- D7.6.25I am Shapur’s own son, and he is yours;Through Mehrak’s daughter too my blood endures.”
