Mahwi Faces Bijan's Host
From E10.13, Bijan Marches against Mahwi. It illustrates E10.13.35–41:
- E10.13.35The scouts came: “Mahwi’s troops are drawing near;At Paykand they prepare for battle here.
- E10.13.36They crossed by boat; their dust obscured the day,And all the plain grew dark along their way.”
- E10.13.37Then Bijan rode before his men to layHis battle lines in order for the fray.
- E10.13.38When Mahwi Suri saw that throng appear,His soul seemed poised to leave his frame in fear.
- E10.13.39So many jowshans, helmets, shining bright,With golden shields and spears arrayed for fight;
- E10.13.40So many gorzes, Chakh-forged axes rose;He grieved to see the numbers of his foes.
- E10.13.41He formed his line against them on the ground;The sky grew indigo; dust wrapped them round.
