Barzvi Strews Herbs on the Dead
From E2.4, The Kalila and Dimna Comes to Iran. It illustrates E2.4.40–45:
- E2.4.40On foot Barzvi searched every mountain slope; His learned guides went with him, filled with hope.
- E2.4.41He gathered herbs both dried and fresh with dew,The green, the withered, every kind he knew.
- E2.4.42He ground the herbs, then scattered what he madeUpon the lifeless bodies there displayed.
- E2.4.43No corpse revived, though every herb was tried; Each healing virtue withered up and died.
- E2.4.44The seekers climbed each ridge and searched each slope;Their toil brought back no fruit and left no hope.
- E2.4.45Then Barzvi knew, “This power is God’s to own;He lives forever on His deathless throne.”
