Hormizd's First Address from the Throne
From E5.1, Hormizd’s Accession and Address. It illustrates E5.1.49–55:
- E5.1.49If any man through wealth should seek a throne,And claim a kingly greatness of his own,
- E5.1.50We will strike off his head for such a claim; No rival shall dispute our royal name.
- E5.1.51In speech and secret thought, in all we do,From first to last, our purpose shall hold true.
- E5.1.52May God bestow His blessing on each soul;May heaven’s turning vault fulfill each goal.”
- E5.1.53When all the great assembly heard his word,Each man grew thoughtful at the speech he heard.
- E5.1.54The wealthy men were filled with inward dread,And tyrants felt their hearts grow scorched and dead.
- E5.1.55But sages and the poor grew glad of heart,For justice seemed to take the needy’s part.
