Hormizd's Smiths Shatter the Swords

From E5.23, Bahram Sends Swords to Hormizd. It illustrates E5.23.29–33:

  • E5.23.29
Then Bahram sent an envoy to the throne,With twelve broad blades of watered steel, well known:
  • E5.23.30
Sharp, venom-tempered swords of deadly light,A challenge to the monarch and his might.
  • E5.23.31
Hormizd beheld that grim, defiant load,And fury through his royal bosom glowed:
  • E5.23.32
He bade smiths take their sledgehammers and smite,Till each snapped blade was broken in their sight!
  • E5.23.33
He packed the shattered steel to send away,With words of bitter malice and dismay.
