Khosrow Greets Maryam
From E6.21, Caesar Sends Aid and a Bride. It illustrates E6.21.41–49:
- E6.21.41When Khosrow heard the legions had arrived,He led his armed men out, his hopes revived.
- E6.21.42When standards rose through dust across the plain,And riders clad in jowshans came in train,
- E6.21.43The legions came like clouds in iron bright,In helm and cuirass, terrible to sight.
- E6.21.44His spirit bloomed like roses in the spring;New royal pride revived the warrior-king:
- E6.21.45He spurred to meet Niyatus on the plain,Embracing him before the Roman train,
- E6.21.46And poured forth praises on great Caesar’s name,Who sent such legions to redeem his fame!
- E6.21.47Then joyful Khosrow, to the bride’s abode,Rode in, and there to Maryam’s presence strode.
- E6.21.48He greeted her, and, kissing her soft hand,Rejoiced to see the bride from Caesar’s land.
- E6.21.49He bore his Moon back to his royal tent,And there three days in talk with her he spent.
