Kut's Body Returned on His Charger
From E6.24, Khosrow Battles Bahram Chubin. It illustrates E6.24.51–57:
- E6.24.51And Izad Gashasp, bind this Roman dead,And send him back upon his horse,” he said.
- E6.24.52“Send him to camp, his cleft flesh plain to view,That his own Shah may see him split in two.”
- E6.24.53They bound the corpse securely to the seat; The charger bore it back with iron feet.
- E6.24.54Then Khosrow grieved for Kut among the dead; His joy had vanished, sorrow bowed his head.
- E6.24.55They loosed the tight kamand that bound the slain,And laid the body out upon the plain.
- E6.24.56They filled the wound with musk; the body dried,They sewed it in a shroud on every side.
- E6.24.57His jowshan on, his waist was girdled fast; They sent him back to Caesar at the last.
