Khosrow's Sword Shatters on Bahram's Helm
From E6.26, Khosrow Overthrows Bahram Chubin. It illustrates E6.26.6–13:
- E6.26.6He rushed in reckless haste before the king,And strung his bow, prepared the shaft to fling.
- E6.26.7He loosed an arrow at the Shah; it stayedCaught at his waist within the rich brocade.
- E6.26.8The point hung slantwise; then a slave drew nearAnd pulled it free; the Shah charged with his spear.
- E6.26.9The Shah then thrust his spear against his foe;It struck the belt where jowshan rings did show.
- E6.26.10The spearhead snapped, yet still the rebel quailed;Though belt and jowshan held, his courage failed.
- E6.26.11The Shah grew angry when his spear gave way;His sword struck on Bahram’s helm in the fray.
- E6.26.12The sword-blade shattered with that mighty blow,And lodged within the helmet of his foe.
- E6.26.13All those who saw and heard the iron ringRaised cries of praise around the fighting king.
