Gurdiyeh Unhorses Tobarg
From E6.42, The Khan Sends Tobarg after Gurdiyeh. It illustrates E6.42.35–42:
- E6.42.35She answered, “Let us leave the ranks awhile,And I will answer you with measured style.”
- E6.42.36He rode toward her, leaving all his men;She saw that he was quite alone, and then
- E6.42.37Beneath her sable helm she showed her face,And spoke with royal courage, scorn, and grace.
- E6.42.38“You saw Chubin’s great horsemanship in fight,And marveled at his deeds and all his might.
- E6.42.39He was both mother and a father dear; His days are ended; now I face you here.
- E6.42.40Now I shall test you; let our weapons showIf I am fit to wed, and you shall know.”
- E6.42.41She spurred her battle-steed; her lance struck true,And then it pierced his jowshan through and through:
- E6.42.42She hurled him from his saddle to the plain,A lifeless corpse among the desert train!
