Gostaham Mourns Bandvi at Gorgan

Gostaham Mourns Bandvi at Gorgan

From E6.45, Gostaham Rebels and Weds Gurdiyeh. It illustrates E6.45.3–8:

  • E6.45.3
He came to Gorgan, country of the great,And heard the Shah had turned his heart to hate.
  • E6.45.4
He heard that Khosrow, drunk, had Bandvi slain; His brother’s death consumed his heart with pain.
  • E6.45.5
He gnawed his hands, dismounted from his steed,And tore his garments in his bitter need.
  • E6.45.6
He poured the dust upon his head and cried,Perceiving vengeance now on every side.
  • E6.45.7
The Shah would now avenge King Hormizd’s blood,And Gostaham stood threatened by that flood.
  • E6.45.8
He turned back mourning, overcome with dread; Before him grief, behind him vengeance spread.
