Gordvi Points Out Bahram Chubin
From E6.5, Khosrow and Bahram Parley. It illustrates E6.5.19–27:
- E6.5.19The desert I shall fill with blood,” he said,Then spurred his piebald charger on ahead.
- E6.5.20As though a homa flew, the charger sped;The army watched, astonished, where he led.
- E6.5.21He chose a narrow stretch on which to fight,And rode to Nahravan in Khosrow’s sight.
- E6.5.22With him rode several men of Iran’s force,All bent on war with Khosrow in their course.
- E6.5.23Khosrow said, “Noble chiefs, make known to meWhich man is Bahram, that my eyes may see.”
- E6.5.24Gordvi replied: “O king, observe the steed,That piebald courser of impetuous breed;
- E6.5.25The rider clothed in white, with baldric black,Who surveys the field from that charger’s back:
- E6.5.26That is Bahram!” The Shah replied in scorn:“That swarthy giant, withered, battle-worn,
- E6.5.27Who flaunts his piebald with such haughty show?”Gordvi replied: “He comes to work you woe.”
