Bahram Rides His Piebald to the Nahravan
From E6.4, Bahram Leads His Troops against Khosrow. It illustrates E6.4.60–68:
- E6.4.60A scout rode up to Bahram and he said,“A force lies two bowshots from us ahead.”
- E6.4.61On hearing this, he moved his troops to fight,And called the veterans to his side outright.
- E6.4.62He rode a piebald charger, nobly bred,With musk-black tail and proud, uplifted head.
- E6.4.63Its hoofs were bronze; his Indian blade flashed bright,Its stroke like lightning bursting through the night.
- E6.4.64He drove the horse like lightning through the plain;Izad Gashasp rode leftward in his train.
- E6.4.65Hamdan Gashasp and Yalan-sina rode,Their hearts intent on strife along the road.
- E6.4.66Three Turks, descended from the Khan, now sworeTo ease the burden that his army bore:
- E6.4.67“If we should see the Shah ride out alone,Away from all the troops he calls his own,
- E6.4.68Seized or slain, he shall be yours; your men shall restFrom every trouble by which they are pressed.”
