Tur Taunts Qobad Between the Lines
From A6.19, Manuchehr Marches for Vengeance. It illustrates A6.19.41–50:
- A6.19.41Once more Qobad rode out beyond the line;Tur saw him there and charged with dark design.
- A6.19.42He said, “Go back and tell your youthful king:‘O fatherless new Shah, hear what I bring.
- A6.19.43Though Iraj left a daughter as his heir,What right have you the royal crown to wear?’”
- A6.19.44Qobad replied, “Each word I heard from you,To Manuchehr I shall repeat it true.
- A6.19.45But if you think awhile, your reasoning heartMay settle straight and wisdom play its part.
- A6.19.46You will see your task has passed all bound,And rue the reckless words you cast around.
- A6.19.47No wonder beasts both wild and tame should grieve,And mourn you, never finding a reprieve.
- A6.19.48From Narvan’s forest over Chin entireStand warriors whose vengeance burns like fire.
- A6.19.49When purple swords beside Kaveh’s banner rise,The sight will strike the courage from your eyes.
- A6.19.50Then terror will confound both heart and will; You will not know the depth from lofty hill.”
